Random Thoughts: Self-Isolation Edition 4/13

I haven’t written on here in a while, but I thought it was appropriate to start again since I have a lot of free time as I WFH and self-isolate. Here are some of my thoughts from the last month:

  1. I’ve been baking a lot, so I guess it’s my new hobby, along with thousands of other people. My favorite thing I’ve baked is BA’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies. These cookies are fantastic! Not too sweet and a little savory from the brown butter. This led me into a deep dive of Bon Appetit’s YouTube channel, which showcases super funny and opinionated chefs. I love hearing their thoughts on their least favorite foods and TV cooking competitions. Their relationship with each other also looks so sweet.

  2. I recently read this post called “Prepare for the Ultimate Gaslighting.” It’s a commentary on the current situation and what will happen after this is all over. Companies and the government will try to make us go back to our “normal” lives, but what is normal now? For the first time in this generation, we get to redefine our new normal and think about what we want to bring back and what we don’t want in our lives anymore. It’s making me think about what’s really important. I love this part:

This is our chance to define a new version of normal, a rare and truly sacred (yes, sacred) opportunity to get rid of the bullshit and to only bring back what works for us, what makes our lives richer, what makes our kids happier, what makes us truly proud. We get to Marie Kondo the shit out of it all.

  3. I started bullet journaling this year, and it was probably the best year to start. I was looking for a way to document my favorite moments, thoughts, events, and habits. I was a little intimidated by all the elaborate designs I saw online, but you can start simple. I followed this layout by Oh No Nina, which is minimal and easy to follow. Bullet journaling is great for the current situation we’re in because I get to check in with my feelings. It’s also a working journal, so you can change things as you see fit. I started with using a weekly layout, but now that I have no plans, it’s not needed.
