Thoughts on Japan
I went to Japan for 2 weeks in April of last year. I can’t believe it’s been a year. On the last day I didn’t want to leave and have been wanting to go back. It was surreal for me to go to Japan because it was the number one place on my travel list. I think I’ve wanted to go to Japan since seeing the music video for Read My Mind by The Killers. I remember going on Flickr way before there was Instagram to find pictures of Tokyo. I’d scroll through the photos and be amazed at all of the neon lights and the all the people at the Shibuya Crossing. I never thought I’d find myself there about 11 years later still full of curiosity and love for Japan as a tourist. Being there was just so cool and amazing. I loved the food, bars, service, public transportation and mood of Tokyo and Kyoto. Some experiences I want to remember forever:
⁃ Going to a vinyl bar, listening to 90’s Japanese pop and talking to the owner and bartender - Music Bar 45
⁃ Going to a huge bookstore - Daikanyama T-site and choosing a CD to listen to + discovering Phum Viphurit
⁃ Eating a strawberry mochi donut from Mister Donut
⁃ Choosing a random yakitori place and drinking beer + shochu in Omoide Yokocho (Piss Alley)
⁃ Seeing the Shibuya Crossing and walking through it
⁃ Being at Fushimi Inari-taisha during golden hour and breathing in the cool mountain air
⁃ Dressing up in a kimono 👘 in Kyoto
⁃ Being amazed with all the stuff you can buy at Mega Don Quijote
There’s so much more I don’t want to forget but I know I’ll be back to Japan soon.
